ONE WORRY

18 Nov

Ibn al-Qayyim rahimahuAllah said, “Do not worry about the affairs of this world for they are for Allah. And do not worry about your provision for it is from Allah. And do not worry about the future for it is in the Hands of Allah. Have one and only one worry: How to please Allah. For if you please Allah, you will be pleased and it will suffice you and enrich you.”

A DISGUSTING END

Those who consume interest cannot stand [on the Day of Resurrection] except as one stands who is being beaten by Satan into insanity. That is because they say, “Trade is [just] like interest.” But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest. So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord and desists may have what is past, and his affair rests with Allah . But whoever returns to [dealing in interest or usury] – those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein (2:276).

  • This is the first ayah in the Quran regarding the prohibition of interest.
  • The expected here is those who take interest. Instead Allah SWT said those who eat interest. The imagery highlighted here is the end of the one who consumes and for what usury is  consumed is the same as food.

HOW TO ATTAIN EVERYTHING

3 Nov

And from part of the night, pray with it as additional worship for you. It is expected that your Lord will resurrect you to a praised station (17:79)

  • Allah SWT said part of the the night and not the entire night. It shows that Allah SWT wants us to worship Him when we are energetic and focused.
  • Allah SWT did not say fasalli but rather fatahajjuh — both mean prayer. The later implies that you slept and then prayed.
  • What does this pronoun return to? It refers to the Quran as mentioned in the previous ayah (if it was biha it would refer to the night).
  • Means voluntary and not compulsory.
  • Implies that the only person who benefit is you.
  • The highest station that anyone can ever have is al-Maqam al-Mahmood (which is reserved for Prophet SAW). If you can have the best of the next world through the night prayer, surely anything insignificant of this world can be achieved through it.
  • Abu Ishaaq al-Sabiie RahimahuAllah said, “O the assembly of youth, exert yourself with all your energy and capitalize on your youth prior to being incapacitated [and unable to pray the night prayer].”

BETWEEN TWO

13 Oct

Ibn al-Qayyim rahimahuAllah mentions that Allah has made a struggle between two states of reliefs– one before and one after. A trail between two free states, and hardship between two eases. So there is no trail which is permanent. And there is no hardship which is permanent… And perhaps a slave looks at something and says it is a punishment but hidden in it is a blessing.

WHAT IS SUCCESS?

5 Aug

al-Hasan al-Basir said, “When prayer is the least of your concerns, then what is your most important concern? As much as you fix your prayer, your life will be fixed. Did you not know that prayer was equated with success: ‘Come to Prayer, Come to Success.’ How can you ask Allah SWT for success when you are not responding to His right upon you?”

ALLAH WANTS EASE

28 Jun

  • Allah wants ease for you and He does want difficulty for you.
  • A person may ask, if Allah wants ease why do I have to pray fajar at 4 AM? Also why do we have to fast for 19 hours?
  • Biqaai RA explains this by saying that the meaning is Allah wants ease for you through His legislation. i.e. anytime you go against what Allah ordained, you will find tremendous difficulty in your life.
  • Fajar is one of the greatest means of having blessing in your day. If you did not pray the prayer, the difficulty you will find in your day far exceeds the small difficulty of waking up, praying and returning to sleep.
  • Secondly, the meaning could be literal. Allah never makes a person go through a difficulty simply for the sake of difficulty. Rather the goal may be to have the persons sins forgiven, raise the persons rank, eradicate a weakness, build a strength or to teach a lesson.
  • Never ever is the goal of a calamity or a legislation to make the persons life difficult.
  • Why is the difficulty also mentioned? You could want ease for a person but still have them go through a difficulty. By mentioning both ease and negating difficulty, exclusivity is created: The only thing Allah wants is ease!

HUGE BLESSING

27 Jun

  • Allah SWT did not say to fast when the month of Ramadan starts. Instead Allah SWT said whoever witnesses the month should fast.
  • Benefit: It is a huge blessing of Allah that He has not caused you to die, and has made you live to witness another Ramadan (Sheikh Waseem Yusuf).
  • Another implied meaning is that Ramadan is a witness for you or against you.
