POUR UPON US WATER

29 May

And the companions of the Fire will call to the companions of Paradise, “Pour upon us some water or from whatever Allah has provided you.” They will say, “Indeed, Allah has forbidden them both to the disbelievers.” (7:50)

  • Hassan was fasting and cold water was brought to him and he started crying. It was asked why and he responded, “I remembered the call of the people of hellfire pour upon us some water.”
  • As you read the Quran, ask yourself with each ayah, how can I implement it into my life.

3. PLANT IT

Prophet Sallahu ‘alihi wa salam said, “if the day of judgement is established upon one of you and in his hand is a shoot of a plant, let him plant it. (Ahmad & authenticated by Sh albani).

  • This hadith depicts a very picturesque scene in which a person is holding a shoot of a plant and all of a sudden, with great shock, the Day of Judgement is established.
  • To highlight with certainty that the Day of Judgement has begun, the past-tense is used.
  • This is used to imply that no one should think they are an exception to this scenario.
  • This implies that the person is just at the initial stages of the action.
  • A plant is used as an example, since it brings benefit to all — humans, animals and the surroundings.
  • Why not death, earth quake or another calamity? To make it clear that no one will benefit from this plant in any way what so ever.
  • Why should you plant it? What is the benefit of planting it?
  • If you were in this situation what would you do?
  • Someone might say to do a sajdah, do dhikr, du’aa or pray.
  • No one would give the answer that Prophet Sallahu ‘Alihi wa salam gave: continue planting.
  • This is because most of us have gotten the basic fundamentals of the religion wrong: We forget that religion encompasses all aspects of our life — there is a time for praying, eating, relaxing, sleeping — all of which should be given their due rights.
  • This hadith has many amazing meanings, lessons, and advises in it.
    1. Comprehensiveness of Islam.
    2. Significance of intention.
    3. Fruits of making an effort.
    4. Benefits of optimism.
    5. Importance of utilizing time, however short it may be.
    6. Importance of carrying out one’s obligation under the most challenging circumstances.
    7. Importance of actions (i.e. never belittling any deed).
    8. Value of actions that benefit others.
    9. Importance of planting to provide food for other.
    10. Connection between the dunya and the akhira.
    11. Depth of the words of Prophet Sallahu ‘alihi wa salam.

LYING IN ALL CASES

al-Sha’bi said, “be truthful especially when you think it will harm you, for it will benefit you. And avoid lying when you think it will benefit you, for it will harm you.”

LEAVE THAT WHICH YOU DESIRE

al-Hasan al-Basri rahimahuAllah said, “you will never attain that which you love except by leaving that which you desire; and you will never attain that which you hope for except by being patient over that which you hate.”

PROTECT IT

Umar ibn Abdul ‘Aziz was asked, “who was upon the truth? Ali or Mu’awiyah?” He responded, “that was a trial Allah protected our swords from. Let us then protect our tongues regarding it.”
