اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ
- Words beginning with mu highlight an attribute possessed by an intellectual being. For example, a Mu-slim believes in Islam. Others: Mu-min, Mu-shrik, etc. The Siratul-Mustaqeem is personified in this ayaah as an elevated goal we should endeavour towards; we cannot attain this without the help of Allah, hence we ask Him in every rakaah.
- The root of the word is Qama/Yaqoomo, which means to stand upright. Yastaqeem is to stand vertically. Hence the Siraat is an upward path towards Allah. As one rises in levels, one comes closer to Allah and distances oneself from the dunya.
- The best way to attain the Siratul-Mustaqeem is through the Salaah.
Prophet SAW said, “When the time for prayer comes and a Muslim performs its Wudu and its acts of bowing and prostration properly, this will be an expiation for his past sins, so long as he does not commit major sins, and this applies to everyone.” [Muslim]
